Église Saint-Cyriaque

Presentation

The Italianate Romanesque façade and triple nave of the abbey church were built between 1190 and 1220, and form a harmonious whole with the Baroque transept and choir dating from the 18th century. Worth seeing in the choir: the reliquary bust of Saint Cyriacus, dating from the 2nd half of the 12th century and the early 13th century. It contains various relics donated in 1049 by the Alsatian Pope Leo IX, including the saint’s arm and his cloth purse. The bust is in silver, with a series of vermeil medallions on a wooden core. The back is decorated with a Christ and a tetramorph (symbols of the 4 evangelists).
