Église Notre-Dame de Stephansfeld

Presentation

It has a sober facade in the Romanesque tradition known as ‘Italianate’, pierced on the first floor by three pointed-arch windows, which probably date from a later period. The nave dates from the early 13th century. Inside the nave, the large arcades rest on powerful columns with cubic capitals, which is somewhat archaic for a late Romanesque building. The high round-headed windows date from the same period, but the nave, which originally had a ceiling, was vaulted with reticulated ogives in the Gothic period (late 15th century).
