Construction of the complex was completed in the first half of the 12th century. The abbey soon became a centre of worship and culture. Reduced to ruins by a fire in the 19th century, only the narthex (the internal portico at the entrance to certain churches) escaped destruction. It was subsequently restored at the end of the 20th century. This building, erected in 1140, features a remarkable series of three Romanesque arcades. It is now used as a concert venue during the summer season, benefiting from its remarkable acoustics.
