Ferrette castle is one of the oldest in Alsace. First mentioned in 1100, it consists of two parts: The upper castle, the oldest, is located at 613 m altitude. It consists of a multi-storey tower carved out of limestone, one of the first of its kind in Alsace. Old engravings show three storeys of geminated windows. Following the destruction by the Swedes in 1633, the remains of the polygonal wall with the bastion tower, the lord’s residence and the well remain. The lower castle contains several round towers with fire hydrants.
