Alspach

Ruins of the abbey church

Presentation

Upstream from the town of Kaysersberg, on the site of an industrial cardboard factory, part of the former Romanesque church of the priory of Alspach, founded by the Counts of Eguisheim in the early 12th century, can be seen. The remains include the south aisle of the church with its vaults, six arcades in the nave and the entrance portal. These remains are now well integrated into an exhibition space. Astonishing Romanesque sculptures adorn this portal, including a depiction of Samson uprooting a tree (left pediment).
